Since my husband and I first started dating almost 23 years ago, we enjoyed strolling in downtown Shreveport and specifically in the lush gardens of the Barnwell Garden & Arts Center. Over the years, the plants started to wilt and become scarce. Eventually, the center closed due to money issues as a result of the city's lack of funding. This dome at the center of downtown Shreveport, once full of life, became an eye-sore. For many, it became just another failed downtown location. Over the years people made suggestions on how this facility could be used to bring people down to the riverfront. When the news hit the stands that Shreveport was getting an aquarium, the community was really excited about this area coming back to life!
The Shreveport Aquarium will be opening it's doors to the public on Wednesday, November 1st. A timed ticketing system put in place to make sure visitors are not too crowded will allow families and individuals to make their reservations online.
Aquatic life such as sharks, jellyfish, and rays will fill the colorful exhibits allowing visitors to admire the beautiful marine features. Touch-tanks filled with sea stars, sea urchins, and sharks will give guests hands-on experience with the aquarium's new sea life.
